The oldest of the main islands of the Hawaiian chain, Kauai is known as the "Garden Island" for the lush foliage that covers its time-worn volcanic mountains. It is the island that Hollywood seeks when the script calls for paradise, and it has hosted a long list of movies, including South Pacific, Jurassic Park, and Blue Hawaii.

Kauai can boast of a wide range of natural wonders, from the breathtaking Waimea Canyon, a.k.a. the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific," to the sheer cliffs of the Na Pali coast. Perhaps the greatest testament to its splendor is that Kauai is where the native Hawaiians go to enjoy the scenery!

Climate in Kauai

If you want to make an islander laugh, ask them for the day's forecast - it rarely changes from day-to-day. The highs are typically in the low 80's and the lows in the mid 60's. On the North Shore, you can expect a short, daily shower that keeps the mountains green, fills the waterfalls, and leaves the sky full of rainbows. The South Shore is drier and is the place to go for an uninterrupted, sunny day on the beach.
